Happy St. Patty's Day, everybody!
We're feeling EXTRA lucky today... WE JUST BOUGHT OUR FIRST CONDO! Pending inspection, of course, but we're THRILLED our offer was accepted!
That said, there will be a TON more "cheap date nights" in the foreseeable future! :)
Also, because of the craziness that has been the home-buying/offer-making/counter-offer-making/pulling-out-every-strand-of-hair-along-the-way-process, we're going to be a little behind on our blog post of the FABULOUS Georgian Room this week -- but we PROMISE it will be up by next Monday! (I've set a new record with nagging Brett on this one!)
That said, we'll leave you with a blog post we wrote for our fabulous friends over at Sassy Fit Seattle -- be sure to check them out for some great personal training ideas! (Brett and I are planning a Boot Camp Date Night with them as one of our Healthy Date installments, so we'll fill you in on how we do!)
Happy dating!

Hello, dear Sassy Fit Readers! I've been asked to guest blog to all you dear readers, highlighting some of this city’s most health-friendly restaurants.
Timing couldn't be better for this, either, because Brett and I are preparing for our wedding in a few months and, in Brett’s own words, have started “Operation Buff and Fit [OBF]” for the wedding.
This means that, while we are still heading out each week on our Date Night, we are certainly more conscious of what we are putting into our bodies.
He and I have always been pretty healthy. We don’t keep chips, candy, or soda in the house. We tend to steer clear of the middle aisles of the supermarkets, opting for the fresh produce, meats, dairy, and grain sections instead. So OBF won’t be too off-course for us.
And you can still enjoy all of the amazing restaurants this city has to offer, as long as you know how to order.
Here’s a great article highlighting just how to stay health-conscious at any restaurant – whether it means skipping out on the dressing on your salad, asking to have your broccoli steamed rather than boiled in oil, or which type of alcohol is best for your heart. Most dining establishments around the city (or even in suburbia!) are aware that Americans are taking their health and eating habits much more seriously, so don’t be afraid to ask for your meal to be specially prepared! Unless of course you’re at Dicks. And then, well, you’re on your own!
I digress.
Because Seattle is one of the top health-conscious cities in the WORLD, we have a host of restaurants that cater to that fact.
Whether offering organic and regional “New American” cuisine like Tilth Restaurant in Wallingford, or Ballard’s Portage Bay Café who pride themselves in the use of sustainable, organic ingredients and their support of local vendors, Seattle has a myriad of options to choose from.
Vegan? No problem! Café Flora in Madison Park offers a wide variety of meatless dishes, many of which are vegan. Silence-Heart-Nest in Fremont is one of my FAVORITE places to grab breakfast. You just feel as though you are doing something great for your body when eating there. Try the muesli, it’s amazing!
And of course, you have about a MILLION sushi restaurants in Seattle to choose from. Sushi is one of the healthiest foods you can eat, as long as you skip out on the spicy mayo or tempura some restaurants put in EVERYTHING. Try the Mango Tango roll at Belltown’s UMI Saki House (and be sure to check out their heated toilet seats!), or the Seattle Roll at Wasabi Bistro, also in Belltown.
Raw fish not your thing? How about raw foods with a little less meat involved? Thrive in Roosevelt offers vegan raw dishes with a kick of creativity! Their menu is a testament to the decadence of Raw foods, demolishing the myth that to eat healthy you must sacrifice deliciousness. Oh, not so. They’re vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free, fatigue-free, and wholly pro-bliss, pro-joy, pro-shine.
Feeling social? Why not check out Art of the Table? An intimate dining establishment located in the Wallingford neighborhood of Seattle, Art of the Table is focused on bringing people together to dine in a communal fashion and to enjoy the bounties of the table, a trait that is all but lost in today's society. By sourcing fresh ingredients and local foods, world-traveled chef Dustin Ronspies creates his "art" through passion and love, both for the meals he creates and for the guests that dine at his table.
Again, there are countless opportunities to dine out in this city, while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle! Luckily, we are not alone, Sassy readers, in our quest to find health in both mind and body. So grab your sweetie, and try out some of these fabulous restaurants!
