Tapas: My new favorite word

Pintxo Restaurant

She Said:

Visited Pintxo last night on a double date night. Now, we weren't planning on blogging about this place but i had to share. It's been on my list for ages (since it was txori, actually), and i have to shout from the rooftops the time we had.

First off, this place is adorable. You walk in and immediately smell amazing food (and when you walk out, you smell just like it. be forewarned!). The place is TINY, so be sure you have reservations. We went at 9pm on a Monday night when the place is typically dead (according to the waitress) and it was busting at the seams.

They didn't have 5 of the 8 tapas we ordered because they were about 5x busier than expected. Which is GREAT, if you think about what that means with the state of the economy. Also, it forced us to order things we wouldn't normally get, and ended up thoroughly enjoying.

I digress.

Located in the heart of Belltown, Pintxo serves up Spanish inspired Tapas, featuring locally sourced ingredients, seven nights a week. This is the perfect spot to grab a drink and some bites after work, meet friends for dinner, or even catch a late night cocktail after a night on the town. Low lights and candles flickering on every table make Pintxo a great date spot.

They also have an adorable back patio, nestled between two exposed brick walls (think Oddfellows). They offer amazing drink concoctions, and we were told we MUST try their homemade Sangria... unfortunately, they were out!, so instead opted for a few of the signature cocktails - tequila sour topped with red wine? OKAY! Sweet s'Orange Sherry? OKAY!

And that's just the beginning. The food. Wow. They change their menu frequently, which is both good and bad - good that we get new amazing treats all the time, but bad because i fell in love with everything we ordered, and want to be able to eat them for the rest of my life.

We ordered eight items (after a few attempts, having run out of many items we initially requested):

Sautéed Cauliflower – with cherry tomatoes in a garlic infused oil

Albondigas con salsa tomate – Beef & Pork meatballs in a spicy tomato & piquillo pepper sauce

Steamed Mussels – Mussels sauteed in white wine & salsa alicante

Gambas pil-pil (below) – Prawns, chili pepper & garlic sautéed in olive oil

Bread & Spread – Judias verde puree, warm bacalao dip, & escalivada

Tortilla Española – Potato & onion omelette served with bread (we ordered two of these - i highly recommend you do the same!)

Patatas Bravas – Over 1lb. of roasted potatoes served with allioli & brava sauce Get a 1/2 order for only $4

Pork Sliders (set of 3, above right) – Citrus cinammon braised pork with chimichurri & balsamic reduction

All amazing. And all this (plus two rounds of drinks) for $100.

Their happy hour is supposedly phenomenal (4-6p/10-close DAILY) - foods are half off, so you walk out full for only like 20 bucks. Sweet deal!

Definitely a fun place to go for a date night - unlike any other place i've been in the city. Enjoy, and Salud!
