Steelhead Diner and White Horse Trading Co.
She Said:
While i was in Victoria, BC for a wedding, Brett and his friend Jon hit up Pike Places' Steelhead Diner for Saturday Brunch.

Brett said it was so ridiculously good, he immediately decided then and there to have that be our next Date Night spot!
[I won't mention that he and Jon tried to recreate their meal at home the next morning without much success... I won't mention that. Even though i find it so freakin' adorable!]
I was all for it!
We headed down to the Market last Wednesday night. And what a beautiful night it was.
The second full day of Fall, the sky was getting dark around 7, the breeze was picking up, and the air had a burnt leaves smell to it. I absolutely love this time of year -- there's just something magical about it.

We arrived at Steelhead around 7.15pm, and immediately Brett realized, after seeing the crowded tables and bar, that we should have made reservations.
The hostess was SO accommodating, offering to shift some people around to find us a spot at the bar.
We told her not to worry, we'd put our names in, then hop over to our FAVORITE Pike Place Market haunt for a couple of pints while we waited.
She put our names down and we headed back into the night, across the street into Post Alley, where White Horse Trading Company is located (1908 Post Alley).
Our first visit to White Horse was an accidental one -- Brett and i stumbled upon this place walking the Seattle streets one balmy august night, looking for a quiet place to grab a night cap before heading home (It's located on the same block in Post Alley as Kell's).
We are so glad we found it: THIS PLACE IS SO COOL!
You don't really know it's there upon first glance -- a small half-door leads into a cozy and quaint, darkly lit, living-room type pub (wine and beer only). We felt like we were walking into someones private party because it was THAT intimate.

There is an air about it that screams London. We loved that. The bartender is always super friendly. Patrons sit on the over-stuffed leather couches, reading quietly (all the books on the shelves are for sale) or chatting amongst themselves. It truly feels like a comfortable neighborhood spot in the UK.

We each bought a bottle of beer ($7ea) and Brett headed to the WC, which you HAVE to try when you go. Just TRUST ME.
Twenty minutes had passed, so we finished our beers and headed back to Steelhead.
Our table was ready, and we were seated immediately. The hostess thanked us again for being so easy going--she was such a sweet heart.
Steelhead is nice and open, with brightly colored walls and softer lighting.
It's modern and artsy, and the theme is "fly fishing" -- very thoughtful details reflecting this were sprinkled throughout the dining room.
First thing Brett shows me when we sat down was the salt and pepper. They are unusual -- the salt is dark -- it's smoked!
And it's GOOD!
Our waiter arrived and we ordered the "Muscles in PURGATORY" as a starter ($12), and Brett got a Stella ($4) and me a Pumpkin Ale ($5).
When in Rome.
The muscles arrived and were PHENOMENAL. Coupled with tomatoes and sausage, the combination of the three together in one bite was a medley of flavors I'd never tried before.

The spice of the sausage masked the salty-sea taste of the muscles just enough. Was perfect!
For Brett's main, he got the full cod ($28.95) and i got the half King Salmon ($19.95).

Food arrived relatively quickly, and they were good portions. Brett barely let me taste his cod because he was so in love with it! The mushrooms were AMAZING and the ginger salad on top was the perfect punch to the meal.
My Salmon was phenomenal as well. Cooked to perfection, it flaked apart so gracefully, and coupled with the cucumber and tomato salad, it was the perfect treat.
We finished our meals and our beers, sat back and enjoyed the view and the company. This is a great restaurant, and for being smack dab in the center of Pike Place Market, it wasn't too "touristy" -- but the seafood was fresh, the staff was friendly, and the company--well, the company couldn't be beat!
